OUR HISTORY
LifeSpan...A Community Service was incorporated in 1972 as Potential Development Homes, Inc. The budding non-profit was founded by a group of concerned citizens, mostly parents of persons with developmental disabilities. It was the goal of this group to create housing in our community for those who were leaving state institutions.
Hope House opened in 1978, and Fowler House opened in 1980. Potential Development Homes, Inc. became the parent corporation for Hope House I, Inc., and Hope House II, NPHC in 1988. Each home is owned by a separate non-profit organization. The three corporations are all tax exempt under IRS Code 501c3 and are managed by a 12-member board of directors which is comprised of volunteers. Policies and strategic direction of the corporation are set by the board of directors. Board members hire an Executive Director to oversee operations and ensure the organization meets its mission.
LifeSpan...A Community Service has strategically diversified its scope of services from residential to other services that create a comprehensive approach to helping individuals reach their highest potential. LifeSpan merged with Community Respite Center, Inc. in 2007. Our services now include:
-
Community Housing - Specialized Residential
-
Community Living Supports (CLS) - In-Community
-
Employment Services - Supported Employment and Skill Building
-
Respite Services (adult) - In-home care for children and adults
LifeSpan...A Community Service received its first accreditation award from CARF in 2001 for Community Housing and has since expanded its accreditation areas to include the above categories as well. Among the benefits of this affiliation are the extensive resources available for expanded learning and technical assistance to ensure compliance with a set of standards that promote continuous quality improvement.
For all services contracted with community mental health organizations, we undergo an extensive credentialing and certification process.
